OET writing challenges specific to Pakistani nurses
Pakistani nurses are educated in English-medium nursing programmes but several patterns appear consistently in their OET letters: long noun-phrase constructions (Urdu and Punjabi reward elaboration), formal openings that delay the purpose statement, and comprehensive case-note transfer rather than reader-driven selection. Each pattern is addressable with sentence-level feedback.

Corrections identify the exact patterns that hold nurses back from Grade B.
"Pakistani nursing candidates write careful, grammatical English. The challenges are at structure level: shorter sentences, purpose-first openings, and selection over inclusion. These patterns shift quickly once a candidate sees the rewrite on three or four corrected letters."
The 6 areas your letter is assessed against
Your letter is marked across six criteria by trained examiners. Our corrections assess every criterion and explain precisely where you are losing marks.
Purpose & Content
Has the right information been selected for the specific reader? This is the criterion where most marks are lost.
Conciseness & Clarity
Is information presented efficiently without unnecessary detail? Brevity and precision are rewarded equally.
Genre & Text Organisation
Does the letter follow the expected professional structure — opening, body, and closing — used in clinical correspondence?
Vocabulary
Is clinical and professional vocabulary used accurately and appropriately for the reader and context?
Grammar
Are grammar structures used correctly and with appropriate complexity for formal professional writing?
Spelling & Punctuation
Are spelling and punctuation accurate throughout? Errors here signal a lack of proofreading to examiners.
Common questions from nurses
Answers specific to your profession and your pathway from Pakistan.
What OET score do Pakistani nurses need for the NMC?
Grade B (350) in each of the four sub-tests. Score combining across two sittings within six months is allowed with at least Grade C+ (300) in kept sub-tests from the earlier sitting.
Is OET required for Pakistani nurses going to the Gulf?
OET is accepted by HAAD, DHA, MOH Saudi and most Gulf health authorities. Requirements vary by emirate and employer; some accept Grade C+ for nurse roles while consultant or specialist posts require Grade B.
What is the most common OET writing error for Pakistani nurses?
Long noun-phrase constructions and delayed purpose openings. Both are fixable in three to five corrected letters — the issue is structural, not language ability.

"My sentences were too long and I always opened with the patient background. After three corrected letters I was writing purpose-first and my next attempt got me Grade B."
